Beautiful
Lake Minnehaha - Clermont, Florida
Groveland – The City of
Groveland, which is located in Southwest
Lake
County
, is a
historical farming and ranching community with a rich heritage in
cattle, horses, and
citrus.

The history of our
community indicates that back in the 1800’s, just a few miles
outside of the town of Taylorville, which is now known as Groveland,
a small community made its humble beginnings clustered around the
railroad tracks. As the
lumber and turpentine industries drew more settlers to the area,
Bay Lake
began to emerge
as a community.

Folks were drawn to
the Bay Lake area then, as they are
now, because of its beautiful countryside and quiet, “laid back”
atmosphere. The Bay
Lake community is also
unique because of its close proximity to the Withlachoochee State Forest, the Van Fleet “Rails to Trails”
hiking and horseback riding tramway, and Florida’s Great Aquifer, the “Green
Swamp”.

Clermont
– This "Gem of the Hills" community is well known for our
beautiful chain of lakes and is also said to have the highest point
of elevation south of Tallahassee. This point of
elevation, known as “Sugarloaf Mountain”, is somewhat of a local landmark. Throughout
the twentieth century this area was famous for the rolling hills of
citrus groves you’d see while driving up Florida’s
Turnpike. Due to the hard “citrus” freezes of the 1980’s the groves
have been cleared out and replaced by upscale residential housing
and horse farms. If you
visit Clermont be sure to stop by the historical Citrus
Tower - a 15
story observation tower built in the 1950’s. From the glass enclosed
observation deck at the top of the
Citrus
Tower you can see our beautiful
countryside, the Clermont Chain of Lakes, and the skyline of
downtown
Orlando
and Disney
World.
.

Howey
in the Hills
– Howey is a historical Lake County community located northeast of Clermont, and
is also known for its beautiful rolling hills, horse communities,
the Mission Inn, the Howey Academy, and its close
proximity to Highway 27 and the Florida
Turnpike.
The
town was founded by William John Howey and incorporated as "Howey"
on May 8, 1925. In 1927
the name was officially changed to Howey-in-the-Hills to reflect the
beautiful rolling hills and sparkling lakes, which he dubbed "the
Florida Alps".
